John Broussard is a captivating storyteller. This book is engaging, inspiring, and undeniably real. I find myself taking breaks throughout reading to just sit with my emotions and process the content. I saw John speak at the School Climate Conference in April of 2022, and knew right then that I had to own a copy of his book for myself, and for my school. Thank you John, for sharing. I can’t recommend this book enough.
JORDEN B –

Having had a parent/Coach relationship with Coach Broussard, his having been an incredible mentor and coach to my son when he attended Linfield, and having known just a small bit of the challenges of his own childhood, I can say without a doubt, this book is so incredibly inspiring, motivating, educating, and filled with his love and empathy for our youth. On every page, you can hear his soul crying out for change. You can hear the frustration of the times in which we live and how challenging it is to make difference for the next generation. The book is filled with tools for teachers and parents, as well as revisiting certain tragicevents of which many of us were a part, including our own children being affected by those events

This book speaks the truth to how empathy, along with being vulnerable to the students we serve is critical of how we serve as educators. I enjoyed how this book was written with authenticity, encouragement, and unconditional love (Agage) of how educators can not only support the lives of students, but assist in their mental, physical, and spiritual maturation. I recommend this book to all current and future educators. Thank John for sharing such an intimate part of yourself and those your serve.

If you are an educator or work with children this book is a must read. The passion for seeing, hearing, supporting, and nurturing the whole child is the theme of this book! As educators we pushed and pulled to think about so many aspects of educating children but we often are not encouraged and championed for putting the child’s social emotional health as the first and most important priority. But Mr. Broussard drives home the concept that it “just takes one” to make an impact on a child’s life. All school district staff should hear Mr. Broussard’s story in person and read his book to help assure that every person working in schools understands the greatest task of education is to support all children in their social emotional health. Highly recommended for parents and community members also. Truly anyone that care about the future because our children are our future!

This book is not only a “Must Read” for all educators & coaches, but for anyone in a leadership position over people as well. John’s story, his vulnerability, & his great desire to inspire others is incredibly moving. He displays a unique ability to connect with his readers in a way that inspires us to use our gifts and talents in our individual ways to touch the lives of others. Thank you, John, for being so real. This will be a book I will read again.

As someone new to the profession, this book has been foundational in my approach to serving as an educator in the Gresham Barlow School District. I recommended it as one of our books of the week at one of our middle school libraries and it received a fantastic response from the staff and Administrators. This book provides a captivating look into how John has developed professionally and the impact his life lessons have had on his stewardship. Any school district would be positively impacted by including it in any professional development for their staff.

The open dialogue and transparency is refreshing and much needed in todays educational spaces. This is a great tool for educators, coaches, and parents alike. It truly is possible to influence our community one child at a time and this book is great evidence of that!

Mr. Broussard is one of the most genuine people I know. Books like this have to come from a person who walks the walk. He walks in his purpose of helping kids and those who work with them as well. I 100% recommend this book.
